Back in the 1880s Alfred Barnard, author of┬áThe Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom, enjoyed an 8 year old Lagavulin he described as “exceptionally fine”.

Released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Lagavulin distillery by John Johnston in 1816, this eight-year-old is big and smoky, with sweet spice. It’s bottled at an exciting 48% abv and was matured in refill European and American oak casks.

Tasting Notes


Honey-roasted nuts, tarry ropes, salted popcorn and light hints of freshly-chopped cedar. A touch of burnt sugar sweetness lingers.


Smokey peat right up front on the palate, coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin powder, smoked kipper and marzipan.


Apple crumble, toasted almond and ash. Cooking spices right at the end.
